HOW HEALTHY IS YOUR HEALTHY DIET

A healthy diet is important to me.

I know how my body feels when it’s nourished, compared to when it’s not.

But some ‘healthy diets’ – including some I’ve followed in the past – aren’t what they seem.

The whole point of a healthy diet is to support your body as it moves through day to day life – and all the challenges and joy that brings.

Yep, that’s right: JOY! An emotion we’re supposed to feel. It’s not “bad” to do stuff that makes us happy. Even if that involves eating some cake every now and again – or drinking a few cocktails on a Saturday night with your girls.

You don’t need to justify this.

You don’t need to be good during the week to earn it.

If you let your “healthy diet” stand in between you and having fun – it’s probably not as healthy as you think.

This doesn’t mean you should sack off your healthy habits when the clock strikes 5pm on Friday, and wait for Monday to roll around so you can pick up the pieces.

It means finding a balance that works for you – something that makes you feel good. Learning how to listen to your body and find out what it needs. It means learning the difference between real fun and self-sabotage.

See that pineapple in the photo? There was a time I wouldn’t have eaten that.

“Is this Paleo?”

Who fucking cares?! If it makes you feel good, eat it.

This is about looking after yourself – and your body – so you can live your best life.

It’s about filling your plate with as many different colours and nutrients as you can – because that’s what makes you feel good.

But it’s not about OBSESSING over food choices and restricting everything that doesn’t comply with whatever food rules are on your agenda right now.

Because there’s one rule that stands out above all else:

Don’t forget to live.
